Anime: CardCaptor Sakura: The Movie

Set between season 1 and season 2, the first movie in the Cardcaptor Sakura franchise is set in Hong Kong.

I admit, I don’t really have anything much to say about the movie. It was average and even the costume this time wasn’t very nice. The only plus side was that we really got to see more about Li and Meiling’s relationships as well as have a peak into Li’s family. Other than that, the characters are more of the same from season 1 and the plot was rather weak.

Compared to the series (and drawing comparisons is only natural) this just doesn’t meet the standard already set. There’s nothing specifically wrong with the movie. It just doesn’t hit the mark and it is quite telling that this is more of a filler episode that they’re producing to make more money off the series.

In short, I don’t like the movie and it’s not crucial to the main series, so it’s quite possible to just give it a miss. But if you really want to see more of Sakura and her antics and her heart that is full of love and sensitivity, then by all means watch the movie.
