Anime: The Restaurant of Many Orders

Also known as Chuumon no Ooi Ryouriten, The Restaurant of Many Orders is a silent anime about two hunters who find themselves lost in the wood. As they are trying to find their way out, they stumble upon a strange restaurant and enter. What ensues is a fantastical journey through the restaurant.

Just 20 minutes long, this short is action packed and filled with suspense and just a touch of comedy (which you don’t get till the end). The art style is reminiscent of a sketch book and is beautiful to look at. The story manages to take flight without the use of speech, just the actions and the expressions of the two hunters alone are enough to carry the show. It’s spooky and creepy as you watch the hunters explore the restaurant (or being led to certain death). At the same time the theme of taking care of the environment slowly but surely crept through.

For something so short, yet to powerful, it’s a must watch in my books.

I saw the title and I thought it sounded familiar… An adaptation of this was recently seen as part of an omnibus movie in Japan called Bungo Sasayakana Yokubou. It sounded like the most intriguing segment of the film!
